Wanbao mining was delighted to receive, Mr. Tomas Quintana, UN Special envoy on human rights to Myanmar last week on a special visit he made to the mine.
On Monday the 17th of February, Mr Quintana and his team met with assistant Managing Director, Deng Hengbo.
Mr. Quintana was shown how Wanbao is adhering to the best international environmental standards through its waste dump process. As Wanbao mining is still in the early stages of construction, Mr. Quintana was also shown around the ""0"( zero) discharge" process at Wanbao's sister company SK which will be replicated at Wanbao.
Managing Director Geng Yi, in a separate letter had urged the Special envoy to visit Wanbao stating;
"The community matters to us greatly, and we hope you get the opportunity to see the work we are doing, and how we are constantly striving to improve".
He also added, "I would also like to take this opportunity to direct your attention that we have been proactively engaging with the Investigation Commission headed by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. All our actions, plans and promises have been closely monitored by them, and all our progress as per the commission's request and process, is regularly being released to the public". Later, Mr. Quintana met with Mr. Cao Desheng, Wanbao's PR manager as well as with the British company, China-I, Wanbao's Development and Communications advisers. We took this opportunity to explain further to Mr. Quintana our current community efforts as well as our social development programs for the future. Critically we also shared with him our upcoming community consultation to engage and involve the surrounding villages in shaping their own futures.
